About the Artist

  • Priest, The Catholic Church in Exile

Author and Visual Artist; Founder of Saints & Souls

My ministry organically includes spiritual direction, contemplative prayer, and grief work. With my background in visual art, literature, and creative writing, I love seeking new spiritual depths in artistic expression.

Icons have served as prayer windows for me and those I love. Creating my own contemporary interpretation of the icon form and tradition has captured my heart and creative energy!

I have also found great support in my grief work and heart-opening practice by depicting my departed loved ones in icon form. I join tenderly with them in the Communion of Saints, feeling them nearer me as I pray with their images at hand. I don’t depict them as generic or perfect, because they weren’t! Each one remains an individual in my heart and in the image I create. In the eternal knowing and love of God, they are saints nonetheless. I love praying with them through my images.

I’d love to design icons of your loved ones, too, to support you in your spiritual journey and grief. I hope you’ll also enjoy the iconic images I’ve rendered of my many spiritual heroes and heroines. They represent a broad range of humanity, illuminated by Divine Presence.

  • “It is not we who are looking at the icon, but rather it is the holy ones who are looking down upon us. This is our destiny as well, for we are intended to become icons of the Lord, just as surely as those men and women depicted in them. God created us for this. He calls us to be filled with his divine grace and with his heavenly light. To become an icon is to become a piece of Heaven on earth.”

    Father Joseph Matlak

  • "To use icons in your prayer life is to open yourself to various access points to God, using not only your mind but all your senses, recognizing that the icon can be as valid a medium of revelation as the printed word—and often a more powerful one."

Jeanette de Beauvoir, St. Anthony Messenger

  • "To pray with an icon is to understand that prayer has less to do with our intellect than it has to do with our heart, less to do with talking than with listening, less to do with doing than with being. "

Jeanette de Beauvoir, St. Anthony Messenger

  • "Each of us is an Icon of God, and through prayer and contemplation, we are able to see our brothers and sisters as God sees them."

    Christine Hales
